Primary Irritation

The most basic test (and typically the first) performed for safety in skin care is called primary irritation. This test checks if a substance causes irritant contact dermatitis, which is an inflammatory reaction characterized by redness and potentially more severe reactions.

Description of Study and Results

Occluded patch tests, consisting of application of plasters of Combray (0.3% Oxofulleram in grape seed oil) for 24 hours, were performed on 25 human test subjects and monitored by a trained dermatologist after 24, 48, and 72 hours. No trace of irritation was observed in any of the subjects. A follow-up examination was performed 3 days after the last observation to ensure no belated reactions, and none were observed.
