What is Combray®?
Combray
is a patent-pending antioxidant skin care formulation based on the principle of your
skin's own protection method. It consists simply of the antioxidant Oxofulleram (0.3%) in grape seed oil. Combray helps
improve the appearance of skin aging and the appearance of redness.
You can download here a complete brochure which can be printed and read off-line.
Formulation
 The amber/burgundy color of Combray
is due to the amount of the antioxidant Oxofulleram present in the formulation. Grape seed oil (70% linoleic acid) is the only other ingredient.
Combray contains no added perfumes, colors, preservatives, or other chemicals.
Why such a simple formulation? Our approach is to use only ingredients beneficial for your skin, and avoid other ingredients. Since Oxofulleram is an excellent antioxidant, it acts to preserve the grape seed oil from
oxidizing, meaning no BHA, BHT or other preservatives are necessary. Since there is no water in the formulation, this means no anti-microbial
preservatives are necessary either. And, since Combray is not a cream, emulsifiers, stabilizers, thickening agents, etc. are also not necessary. With Combray, you don't put any more oil on your skin than if you used
a cream or lotion, since creams and lotions are mixtures of oily and
aqueous components.
Your body naturally secretes an oily substance called sebum, which contains antioxidants (mainly Vitamin E and Coenzyme Q10, which are oil soluble, or lipophilic). Sebum is an important component of your skin's natural protection. Grape seed oil is over 70% linoleic acid (an essential fatty acid, or omega-6 fatty acid), very similar to the lipids present naturally in sebum and the top-most layers of your skin, the stratum corneum. It is these lipids that form a barrier which keeps moisture from escaping from your skin. The antioxidants in sebum penetrate the upper layers of the stratum corneum and also protect against environmental sources of free-radicals.
So, Combray is designed to mimic and supplement your skin's own protection method. The antioxidant in Combray, Oxofulleram, is a rather unique molecule, and has antioxidant properties especially suited to use as a skin care supplement.
Clinical studies show that in addition to providing an antioxidant benefit, Combray is non-irritating,
non-allergenic, non-photosensitizing, and non-photoallergenic.
Combray and Oxofulleram are patent-pending, developed and tested by Solenne. Oxofulleram is only available
in our Combray formulation.
Neither Oxofulleram nor Combray has ever
been tested on animals.
How to Use Combray
After cleansing in the evening, apply about 6 drops to your face,
gently massaging the oil into your skin. Your skin should not be shiny
or oily after use. Apply a few drops as needed in the morning after
cleansing before using any make-up or UV sunblock. You can also apply a
drop directly to blemishes or to your skin after sun exposure.
Sunlight
is the major cause of damage to your skin, so you should always try to
minimize direct, long-term exposure to the sun, especially without the
use of a UV sunblock. Always use a UV sunblock before significant sun
exposure. Do not apply Combray before prolonged exposure to the sun
without an adequate UV sunblock as it is an oil-based formulation, and
oils can intensify the sun's rays on your skin.
What to Expect
An overload of free radicals may be present and causing damage any time
you have an inflammation such as a blemish or sun-burn. You will find
an accelerated improvement in the appearance of blemishes noticeable
within a day or two, without drying or irritation. Whenever your skin
is recovering from recent inflammation-related damage, such as a
sun-burn or chemical peel, you should notice a soothing effect and
accelerated improvement in the re-appearance of the health of your
skin.
A more healthy and youthful appearance will begin to be
noticeable after a period of 1 - 2 months. It may take as long as 3-6
months to see a noticeable difference in the appearance of lines,
wrinkles, and age-spots.
Those with an oily skin type needn't worry
that Combray will cause increased oiliness or breakouts. Applying
a small amount of Combray after washing may help to regulate the sebum
(or oil) your skin produces naturally. Stripping away your skin's
natural oil or sebum too much leads to increased sebum production (or
oiliness). Your skin self-regulates, secreting more sebum when there
is little oil or sebum on the surface of your skin. Soaps and alcohols
take away the sebum on your skin, so replacing the light oil layer with
Combray after washing may help to reduce an over-production of sebum
and you may find that your skin even becomes less oily.
Combray
is a gentle, natural aid to your body's own protective system. The aim
is to shift the balance between cell damage and protection. Therefore,
you should expect no drastic or immediate effects on healthy skin
simply a more healthy and youthful appearance that will gradually
become apparent.
